Yes, it can recur, especially at higher stages:

  • Stage 0 or I: Low risk of recurrence if treated, but about a 20% chance of spreading if it doesn’t respond to initial treatments.
  • Stage II: Higher risk of relapse, up to 50%.
  • Stage III: Risk of recurrence is up to 70%.
  • Stage IV: Usually not curable, and over 90% of patients may have ongoing disease.
