- Aseptic Bursitis - This inflammation results from local soft tissue trauma or strain injury. In this condition, bursa is not infected. The treatment options available are,

- Anti-inflammatory and pain medicines
- Injection of steroid into the affected area
- Splints or braces
- Septic Bursitis - Bursa becomes infected with bacteria. This causes pain and swelling. Treatment includes antibiotics, repeated aspiration of the infected fluid, and surgical drainage and removal of the infected bursa.
