How is Goiter Diagnosed?

Diagnosis of goiter typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging studies, and blood tests. Your healthcare provider may order tests such as:

  • Thyroid function tests: Blood tests to measure levels of thyroid hormones (T3, T4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
  • Ultrasound: Imaging test to visualize the size and structure of the thyroid gland and detect any nodules or abnormalities.
  • Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy: Procedure to obtain a tissue sample from thyroid nodules for analysis and rule out cancer.
