As sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is an emergency, the affected person can be treated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). CPR can save the life of a person by giving chest compressions to replace the heart’s pumping action. It keeps blood and oxygen circulation smooth. After that, a defibrillator may be used when available. The defibrillator is a device that sends electric shocks to the heart. This electric shock can restore a normal rhythm of the heart that has stopped beating. These steps have to be done within minutes of SCA. CPR and defibrillation rescue a person from SCA.
