Should I Consider Genetic Testing for COPD?

If you’re diagnosed with COPD, your doctor may recommend genetic testing for a condition called alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency. This genetic condition can increase the risk of COPD. Testing is especially important if you have a family history of early COPD (in your 40s or 50s) or liver disease. If you test positive, share this information with your family, as they might be at risk too.
