Sleep and Its Influence on Thyroid Function

Thyroid is a small butterfly shaped gland located at the front of the neck. It produces two hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine. These hormones are responsible for various physiologic processes such as breathing, regulation of heart rate, body temperature and digestion. Excess or low levels of these hormones have adverse effects. So balanced thyroid activity is needed for maintaining proper health. It is interesting to know that thyroid issues can lead to sleep problems as well.
