The hallmark symptom of bullous pemphigoid is the presence of large, tense blisters on the skin. These blisters are typically:
- Filled with Clear or Yellowish Fluid: The blisters are often firm and do not rupture easily.
- Located on Flexural Areas: Common sites include the lower abdomen, groin, upper thighs, and armpits.
- Preceded by Itchy Red Patches: Before blisters appear, some individuals may experience itchy, red, or swollen patches of skin.
- Occasionally Painful: While the blisters themselves are usually not painful, the surrounding skin can become tender or irritated. Bullous pemphigoid can vary in severity, with some individuals experiencing only mild symptoms, while others may have widespread and persistent blistering.
