Pneumonia symptoms can be similar for both viral and bacterial types. For kids under 5, signs include:
- A cough or trouble breathing.
- Fast breathing or chest retraction (where the chest pulls in during inhalation).
- Wheezing, especially with viral pneumonia.
- Severely ill infants might have trouble feeding, could be very cold, and might even have convulsions.
