What Are the Types of Usher Syndrome?

There are three types of Usher syndrome, each with different symptoms.

People affected with Type 1 experiences,

  • Profound hearing loss or deafness at birth
  • Loss of night vision at the age of 10 with severe vision loss at midlife
  • Balance problems

People with type 2 might experience,

  • Moderate to severe hearing loss in early childhood.
  • Loss of night vision by teenage years with severe vision loss at midlife.
  • Normal balance

People with type 3 experiences,

  • Normal hearing at birth, with hearing loss starting in childhood
  • Loss of night vision by teenage years with severe vision loss at midlife.
  • Normal balance
