Goiter is an enlargement of the thyroid gland, located at the base of the neck. It can be caused by various factors, including iodine deficiency, thyroid nodules, inflammation of the thyroid gland (thyroiditis), or autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease.
