Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the thyroid gland, leading to overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). This results in symptoms such as weight loss, rapid heartbeat, nervousness, and an enlarged thyroid (goiter).
