What Is Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD)?

NMOSD, also known as Devic disease, is a chronic condition affecting the brain and spinal cord. It involves inflammation of the optic nerve (optic neuritis) and the spinal cord (myelitis). This can lead to vision loss and paralysis. Unlike earlier beliefs that it was a one-time illness, we now know it usually involves multiple attacks over time with periods of remission.
