Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors. The radiation damages the DNA of cancer cells, inhibiting their ability to grow and divide. This therapy can be delivered externally using machines or internally through radioactive substances placed near the cancer cells (brachytherapy).
