CRSwNP and asthma are often linked and frequently occur together and can worsen each other’s symptoms. They share a similar pathophysiology:
- Type 2 inflammation: Elevated levels of cytokines like IL-4, IL-5 and IL-3 drive the inflammatory response
- Eosinophils: High levels of eosinophils in the tissue contribute to inflammation and tissue remodeling.
