Treatment for Vision Problems: Low vision aids and vision rehabilitation services can help people with usher syndrome make most of their vision. Vitamin A may help slow down the development of retinitis pigmentosa in people with usher syndrome.
Treatment for Hearing Problems: Treatment for hearing problems caused by usher syndrome include
- Hearing aids or assistive listening devices (devices that make sounds louder)
- Cochlear implants (device that help people with severe hearing loss)
Some children with Usher syndrome can learn American Sign Language (ASL) to help communicate, or get hearing training to hear and understand different sounds.
