A tongue biopsy is necessary when there are persistent or unexplained abnormalities on the tongue, such as non-healing sores, white or red patches, lumps, or unexplained pain. It may also be recommended if there are signs of potential oral cancer or if initial treatments for suspected benign conditions do not resolve the issue.
