Leishmaniasis is endemic in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, including parts of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. People living or traveling to endemic areas are at risk of contracting the disease, particularly those who engage in outdoor activities or live in rural areas with poor housing conditions and limited access to healthcare. Certain populations, such as immunocompromised individuals and refugees or displaced persons living in crowded and unsanitary conditions, are at higher risk of severe forms of leishmaniasis.
