Heart transplant is the last resort of treatment for people having end stage heart failure. This means that the patient’s heart has permanent damage or weakness that keeps it from pumping enough blood to the body. This kind of heart failure can occur due to various reasons. Most people require heart transplant due to the following conditions.
- Cardiomyopathy - It is caused due to any disease damaging heart muscles. The common causes are infections and genetic diseases. Sometimes, the exact cause remains unclear.
- Coronary Artery Disease- Blockages in the arteries of the heart can result in heart attacks causing irreversible damage to the heart.
- Congenital Heart Disease - Congenital heart disease occurs due to defects in the heart structure from birth. Some forms of congenital heart disease can result in end-stage renal failure requiring a heart transplant.
- Valvular Heart Disease - These conditions occur due to damage in the heart valves.
