A cold knife cone biopsy is performed for several reasons, including:
- Diagnosis of Abnormal Pap Smear Results: To further investigate abnormal cells found during a Pap smear.
- Treatment of Precancerous Lesions: To remove high-grade cervical dysplasia (CIN 2 or CIN 3), which are precancerous changes in the cervix.
- Evaluation of Cervical Cancer: To determine the extent and depth of cervical cancer and to guide further treatment.
- Follow-Up After Abnormal HPV Test: To obtain a more definitive diagnosis following abnormal results from an HPV test.
